Biography

H.H. Prince Antoine-François was born in 1652, he is the son of Louis II de La Trémoïlle (1612-1666), Duke of Noirmoutier, and Renée Aubery.

Blind from birth, the Prince left the ecclesiastical orders when his brother Prince Louis-Alexandre died on the battlefield in 1667.

The future Duke married in 1688 Marguerite de La Grange-Trianon, then on May 22, 1700 Élisabeth Duret de Chevry.

In April 1707, Louis XIV, King of France and Navarre, erected the Marquisate of Royan into a Duchy in his favour.

The Prince died on June 18, 1733, childless. The title was subsequently passed on to his closest cousin Prince Augustin (1686-1745).
